These protein snacks are loaded with nutrition and taste great. The benefits you will get from these bite size snacks will amaze you! Here is what they have to offer:
The nut butter will give you protein and heart healthy fats. Adding honey will help you battle seasonal allergies. Flaxseed will add protein, fiber and omega 3 fatty acids. This will aid in digestion, improve heart health and can regulate your blood sugar. Oats have many benefits and are one of the oldest grains. Using these will add a variety of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants as they are a whole grain. Adding even a little bit of cinnamon can prevent damage to your cells by neutralizing free radicals. Chia seeds offer many vitamins and minerals and are loaded with antioxidants. Hemp hearts are not only brain food in that they offer brain friendly antioxidants, but they contain all 9 essential building blocks of protein.
Anyone in the family can make these, even my little kids enjoy making them as an afternoon activity! Protein snacks are great to pack in advance for lunch to make sure you have a great source of nutrition during your busy days. I also love to munch on them at home as a snack, or grab one as I am running out the door!
Ingredients:
½ cup nut butter
¼ cup honey
⅓ cup flaxseed meal
½ cup rolled oats
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon chia seeds
¼ cup raw hemp hearts
⅓ cup protein powder of your choice
Optional:
¼ cup mini chocolate chips
¼ craisins
¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
Simply add all of your ingredients to a bowl and mix together well. Once all of the ingredients are incorporated, roll into about 10 balls. Place them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to a week or you can freeze them for months.
Notes:
If you need nut free try sunflower seed butter.
You can use peanut butter or any other nut butter that you prefer.
You don’t have to use protein powder, but if you choose not to, substitute with more oats.
I use Vega protein and enjoy the chocolate and the vanilla flavor in these.
If you can buy local honey, this is best for your allergies.
This recipe is easy to double or even triple, as my family does to have plenty on hand!
I hope you enjoy these healthy snacks!
