Why I Eat Spinach Everyday
Like many women, my anemia became really bad during pregnancy. I didn’t want to take the iron supplements and when I tried I couldn't tolerate them anyway. I already had a pretty good diet, but decided to start trying more iron rich foods. I couldn’t tolerate meat or fish at the time. I enjoyed beans, but they often didn’t sit well digestively. I enjoyed adding nuts to my meals, but knew it just wasn't enough. That left leafy greens to try eating more of. The one I benefited most from was spinach. I was able to tolerate it and digest it well with no bloating or discomfort. I started to have more energy and better focus. I just felt stronger and overall better every day. Best of all, once I had been eating it everyday for some time, my iron levels were increasing. With this, my Dr was starting to let me be and stopped pushing the supplements! Along this
journey I found spinach to have so many benefits and it was the easiest to add to any meal. The benefits you can gain from eating more spinach are many, but I picked the ones I think everyone can relate to, so just to name a few:
Vitamin A which aids in tissue growth leading to healthy skin, it will help your glow.
Antioxidants, these protect your brain from free radicals and inflammation, this helps your concentration.
Increased circulation which means better transportation of oxygen, your organs will appreciate this.
A type of sugar that fuels the growth of healthy gut bacteria, this improves digestion and decreases bloating.
Vit E which supports your immunity, you'll be able to fight off the common cold and other illnesses better.
Magnesium which helps reduce stress and anxiety, we all are struggling with some form of this these days.
Now some fast, easy and efficient ways to add spinach to your meals.
Add a handful to your favorite smoothie, it leaves no taste at all.
Put some on your avocado toast or breakfast sandwich.
Add it to your favorite sandwich instead of lettuce.
Add it to your salads, even if you mix it in with other greens.
Place it in your soups just before serving.
I know spinach isn’t that appealing and sometimes it can be thought of as a toxic diet culture product, but if you can learn to simply add it to your other meals you will gain great benefits!
